We are seeking a highly motivated and talented bioinformatician to join the international research project “Skeletal muscle-Heart crosstalk in the context of cancer-induced cachexia (MuscExiaHeart)”, funded by ERA4Health InterHeart 2025. The position is available immediately and will be based at Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan, Italy, with the possibility of partial remote work.

The successful candidate will join the research group led by Dr. Marie-Louise Bang, which is part of the Cardio Centerheaded by Prof. Gianluigi Condorelli at Humanitas Research Hospital. The focus of the lab is to study the mechanisms underlying cardiac disease and identify novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers.

The MuscExiaHeart project investigates the impact of extracellular vesicles released by skeletal muscle on the heart in the context of cancer-induced cachexia and explores how muscle-heart crosstalk is modulated by physical exercise and pharmacological interventions. The overall goal is to define molecular signatures to identify biomarkers and discover novel therapeutic targets.

The successful candidate will perform integrative analysis of multi-omics datasets, including snRNA-Seq, CUT&Tag, proteomics, and metabolomics, generated from extracellular vesicles and tissues derived from skeletal muscle/tumor co-culture systems and mouse models of cancer-induced cachexia.

Key responsibilities
·    Develop and execute bioinformatic pipelines for the analysis of transcriptomic (snRNA-Seq, total RNA-Seq, microRNA-Seq) and epigenetic (CUT&Tag, ATAC-Seq) datasets derived from extracellular vesicles and tissues from in vitro and in vivo models.
·    Integrate multi-omics datasets to uncover molecular pathways and regulatory networks underlying disease mechanisms.
·    Curate and prepare datasets for deposition in public repositories.
·    Contribute to manuscript preparation and dissemination of results.

Qualifications
·    Master’s degree or higher in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, computer science, data science, or equivalent applied to biology, preferably with cardiovascular focus.
·    Proven expertise in RNA-Seq and integrative multi-omics analysis and interpretation.
·    Proficiency in R, Python, or similar programming languages.
·    Experience in using omics data to provide insights into molecular pathways and disease mechanisms.
·    Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
·    Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
·    Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team.

What we offer
·    A 1-year contract (co.co.co), renewable for at least two additional years based on performance.
·    Salary commensurate with experience.
·    Flexibility, with the possibility of partial remote work.

Application
For consideration, please send a motivation letter, including CV and the names and contact information of at least two references by e-mail to: marie-louise.bang@humanitasresearch.it
